Recd O.S. 7th Dist. Va. Nov 9th 1866 Bureau of R.F.& A. Lands Hd. Qrs. Rockbridge Alleghany and Bath Cos. Va, Lexington Va. Nov 2d 1866. A-336- Carse G.B. Bvt. Col. V.R.C. and Asst. Supt. R.F.& A.L. 6 Reports that J.C. Johnson the murder of Patrick Thompson (cold) has been released. Freedmens schools have not yet been opened. The teachers have arrived and hope to open school in a few days. Freedmen have purchased a school house in the town and hopes Govt will assist them in repairs &c. Acknowledges the receipt of order returning him from duty at Lexington and will report in person as soon as his successor comes to relieve him, and receive his records &c. Bureau R.F.& A.L. Hd. Qrs.
