Reports that J.C. Johnson the murder of Patrick Thompson (cold) has been released. Freedmens schools have not yet been opened. The teachers have arrived and hope to open school in a few days. Freedmen have purchased a school house in the town and hopes Govt will assist them in repairs &c.
Acknowledges the receipt of order returning him from duty at Lexington and will report in person as soon as his successor comes to relieve him, and receive his records &c.
