Bureau of R.F. & A.L.
Hd. Qurs. Asst. Supt. 8th Dist. Va.
Christiansburg, Montgomery Co. Va.
November 25th 1866.

Bvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown
AAAG.

General-

I have the honor to make the following report relative to the affairs of the Bureau in my Sub District, comprising the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski and Giles, in the 8th Dist. of Va. for the month of November 1866.

The Freedmen who have been laboring for shares in the crops, are now beginning to realize the results of a bountiful ingathering. Some have done exceedingly well, and have sufficient to support themselves and Families for the next twelve months. In some cases efforts have been made to drive them off the premises, before the results of the Harvest have been known; but only in a few instances have the parties succeeded; and caused by the Colored party concerned not having the proper contract or sufficient evidence to prove his claim.
