be used to remove them, also that transportation would be furnished to their former places of residence. To this many of them replied that they had no other homes and would stay and die where they were. Their objections to returning to their former homes are so strong that the provision of Rations and Quarters are not sufficient to induce them to go. The also object to being removed to the Wise farm. 
Hospitals - In this District there is one Freedmen's Hospital located at what is called the Fair Grounds near this City. In this Hospital 18 Freedpeople have been provided for during the month. This Hospital and Ground was rented from the City Council by an agreement entered into in August last to continue one year. At the time that this agreement was made the Bureau had a quantity of lumber upon Taylor Farm from which it was proposed to use in fitting the buildings and ground for occupancy. By instructions in the restoring of the Taylor Farm, the removal of this lumber was prohibited which has delayed the work upon the Hospital grounds, and added somewhat to the expense. The whole expense of fitting up then to the present time has been $272 60/100. The work upon them has been suspended awaiting the discussion of the Taylor farm question.
The Old Folks Home located at Wise Farm. Into this are received the aged and infirm - Whole number assisted during the month 15 -. This could be located at Freedmen's Hospital with benefit
