dozen applications for rations from this class during the month. Most of the Sunday Schools and day Schools had to close owing to the cold weather the Sunday School at this place that used to have an attendence of Two Hundred Scholars has fallen off to an attendence of about Thirty. The parents of colored children are preparing to send these children to a Free School that is to be opened here about the first of January under two white Lady teachers from the North that are to be here shortly. Thirteen citizens have reported Branded Stock in complience with General Order No. 11. C.S. Head Quarters Dept of the Potomac. I expect a much larger number to come and report out Horses and mules in there possession as soon as the order has time to get more widespread. There is a seemingly friendly feeling existing and still growing stronger between the Freedmen and their former masters, and but few lawsuits in which white and black are parties but in all such the Courts deal justly by the Freedmen.
