to report the almost entire lack of interest displayed by the people of this county on the subject of educating the Freedmen, especially in the matter of establishing schools. A large number it is true are teaching those in their employ, at their homes, but display an
unwillingness to do more than that. Although no obstructions are, or would be placed in the way of establishing schools, still the people will contribute nothing toward it with very few exceptions

The destitute Freedman in this county are well cared for by the Overseers of the Poor, and since that matter was turned over to them, I have had no applications for aid that have not been promptly attended to by the Overseers

The Freedman are remarkably temperate, well behaved, and generally attentive to their
several duties.

The health of the county is very good, very little sickness existing among the Freedmen
