Pursuant to Cir. No. 6. C.S. Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr Va, I have the honor to submit report on condition of Bureau affairs in this county.

The schools, day, night and industrial, are in thorough working order and the daily increase in pupils is encouraging.

There has been no demand for rations during this month (except for Hospital) although there is undoubtedly great destitution in many sections of the county. The discontinuance of applications for rations has heretofore been attributed to the reserve supply of grain held by freedmen, which must however, (in view of the crop failure, and the small quantity gathered) be exhausted during the coming month, if not already melted away. Active inquiry and thorough investigation have made it manifest that great destitution overspreads many, if not all of the more densely
