respectfully and help them, and they are respected by the Freedmen. The truth of the matter is, that the whites are as much Rebel and opposed to the Government of the United States, as they were during the war, and only the fear of punishment keeps them from violence.

The majority of the freedmen are willing to work and support themselves and their families, at the same time there are many who are not willing to work and are content to prowl around the county and obtain their living as best they can.

The Schools are well attended and the Freedmen both adults and children show a disposition to learn.
