Personally appearance before me Lieut. W.S. Chase V.R.C. & Asst. Supt. Bureau of R.F.& A.L. Sub District of Fauquier & Rappahannock Va. John G. Foster who affirmed that the statements of Alexander Benedict are true having known Mr. Benedict 10 months. I always found him an upright and honorable man and I further state that I firmly believe that a jury in this county would not give justice to a Union man if they possibly could avoid it.

John G. Foster

Affirmed & signed before me this the 16th day of January 1867.

W.S. Chase
2d Lt. V.R.C. & Asst. Supt.
