The issue of rations to the colored poor has necessarily increased in this locality by reason of the fact that many of the old people have been thrown upon their own resources on a/c of the Tobacco Establishments having suspended operations for a short time.- Many of those being fed by me are almost destitute of clothing as well as food. As the County authorities are doing nothing for them they are entirely dependent upon the Bureau for what barely prevents starvation. I expect however that the list will materially decrease during the month of March, as by that time, the relatives & friends of these people will be able to provide for them.
