Pittsylvania Co
Danville Va.
February 1st 1867.

Capt R. S. Lacey
Supt. 7th Dist Va.

Captain
I have the honor to forward the following report for the Month ending January 31st 1867.

During the past month I have had upwards of one hundred applications for assistance either to obtain for Freedmen the wages due them for services rendered during the Year 1866, or to assist them in obtaining the custody of their children, who in many instances have been taken from them and indentured to some former Slave holder until they shall be of age.

I am led to believe from what I can learn from both Black & white that there are upwards of a thousand Freedmen in the county of Pittsylvania who have not been paid for their services for the year 1866, and I firmly believe that they never will be unless the Freedmen's Court is again opened. Men take forcibly from Freedmen anything they may have and it seems nothing can be done
