comparatively little destitution among the Freedmen and it mostly confined to the old and infirm who have no relatives or friends a large number of this class however are supported by their former owners

Neither of the counties has as yet made sufficient provision for the support of the poor of either color

In a number of cases which have come under my observation the Freedmen have laid by a fair proportion of the wages received last year and they generally show a disposition to accumulate

There is quite a marked improvement in the condition of the Freedmen in the Sub Dist. during the past year
