In compliance with circular No 6 dated Hd Qrs Asst. Comr Va Richmond Va January 29th 1866. I have the honor to report that there is not as good feeling existing between the whites & and Freedmen in consequence of difficulties arising in the settlement for the year 1866. In some instances the freedmen claim more than their due but in most cases there is a disposition on the part of employers not to act in good faith. One case is as follows. Abner Dangerfield (a freedman) contracted to work for Wm. L. McCordy for the sum of $110.00 During the year he received in cash from McCordy $14.90 and lost 5 days also deducted $1.50 leaving 93.60 Dangerfields due, McCordy informs him that he has no money and does not know when he will have any but still promises to pay Dangerfield & his brother Anthony are supporting an aged mother and
