are doing exceedingly well, and are happy and contented, they are begining to see the absolute necessity of laboring to support themselves and Families, and are shapeing their course of conduct accordingly. A large number of Females who since their freedom, having been living in idleness, are now at work and doing something to assist their Husbands & Father's in making something, instead of being as they have heretofore been an incubus upon them, and are thereby removing one of the greatest evils that existed here.

In the matter of the education of the Freedmen, the plan of the members of the Families with whom they are living teaching them, is on the increase, but in the establishment of regularly organized schools, I regret to state, the same apathy still exists throughout this community, but as the season advances I hope, and have reason to beleive the Sabbath Schools will again be opened the same as during last year.
