Report on the condition of Bureau affairs in the Sub.District of Amelia & Powhatan Counties Va. by Lieut J.B. Clinton Asst. Supt. Bu. R.F & A L. for the month ending February 28" 1867.

In this, I have the honor to state, that there are no cases of injustice, either by individuals or tribunals, to report, that. there is nothing new or unusual transpired, and at present there is nothing more consequential or interesting than the fact that the season for business is opening, and the freedmen as a general thing have made their engagement for the year, and are striking in with a will, and an apparent determination to make an honest livelihood, and that there is an increasing interest in their behalf, on the part of the Whites is manifest, as not unfrequently do I hear the expression that "the freedmen are the best and only labor they can have, and let us make the best of it, and teach, treat and work them in such a manner that they may have confidence in us and make something both for themselves and us"
