consideration, in connection with the feeling of distrust which existed one year ago, clearly proves that the freedmen, if properly treated will be industrious, in fact, faithful to their obligations in every regard.  Those who in the early part of the year 1866 had the courage and confidence to secure a full force of laborers, and who faithfully fulfilled their contracts not only are satisfied with the result of their experiment, but now are offering better wages and are arranging to operate more extensively than they did the last year.  While on the other hand, those who were too timid to risk the freedmen's faithfulness are lamenting the mistake they made, and are now making every effort to secure laborers for the present year.  These facts, in connection with the quiet, orderly deportment of the freedmen, furnish evidences to the effect that the feeling existing between the two races is far more favorable than it was at least one year ago.
