School, if opened on the ground spoken of, near here. Later, in my Report of Nov. 30th, pursuant to "Circular No. 6, I further stated, that although up to the end of October $45.00 had been subscribed, but $9.00 had been paid in to the "Treasurer", who had been appointed. I am sorry to have, now, to add, that nothing additional has since that time been appointed and realized. Some of the Subscribers have gone off to other localities; the others have grown indifferent, or discouraged, or find that they cannot keep up their subscriptions; and the "President" of the "Association" has of late been unable to even convene a meeting. Under the circumstances, there remains but one course to pursue, viz. - refund the money already collected. I seriously regret the collapse of a most laudable project.

The following are the most prominent amongst the complaints made during the month: to wit: 

On the 1st - "Clayburn Asher" - Col. - vs. "Wm. B. Tyree" - Wht. - residing at "Doe Run", six miles from Rocky Mount. On the 2nd Jan./66, Plaintiff contracted to work Defendants farm, for 1/5 the crop made. in settling, the first of this year, however, he only gave him only 1/10. The value involved, amounting to over $50.00. by my advice counsel was engaged, to bring suit. It is doubtful, however, whether the kind and degree of evidence required here, a colored person being a party, can be obtained to carry the case successfully through.

On the 13th Mrs. "Susan Shelton", by Miss "Fannie Hale" - both white - for self and "Emma Shelton" - Col.- vs. "Moses Harston" - col. - & "Harvey Gray" - white. On the 11th, the two latter; the first of whom was the girls step Father; without authority came into the house occupied by the parties first named, and forceably carried Emma
