No. 2.

I was at work for Mr. Clark about three miles from Fred Hall Louisa Co. Va. on Wednesday the 20th of February 1867 with a white man names Geo. Woddy stripping tobacco. Mr. Woddy found fault with my work and I told him if I did not suit if I was paid up I would quit. I said some of these mornings I am going back to Albemarle where I came from. At this Mr. Woddy struck me with a tobacco stick on the head and commenced to beat me and his brother [[?]] me try to get away flew at me and beat me saying G-d d-n, you, you resist a white man! I'll kill you and called for a knife saying he would stab me. Mr. Clark came and made them stop beating me and I got out of their way. Mr. Clark paid me and wanted me to stay but I knew I was not safe. I could not get a warrant to have them arrested.
