No cases of actual destitution have come under my observation among the Freedmen during the month and very little sickness exists The demand for laborers is much greater than the supply- good farm hands are getting from $10. to $15. a month. Cooks, washers, & livers from $3 to $6 a month-

I consider the Bureau affairs of the county of Culpepr & Rapple Va in a very prosperous & harmonious condition.

The two ladies engaged at this point as Teachers of the Freedmens school viz Miss S.F. Wood & Miss Anna Kempton under the auspices of the N.E. Freedmens aid society Boston Mass. have gone home. owing to the illness of Miss Kempton. they left on the 10th of this month. since which Mrs MacNulty has discharged the duties attended to by them by day and I have assumed charge of the night sessions which I shall continue to do where not incompatible with my official duties unless otherwise directed, by superior authority

The school is progressing finely and is subject to no hostility from the whites or any interruptions whatever - and is increasing in interest and numbers. The new building answers the purpose of school house & church
