very nicely. The regular attendance at school now is about 100 pupils and with a fair prospect of an increase of 50 more as soon as the ground becomes settled. Some pupils walk (5) five miles to school.

I never saw evidence of a deeper interest in education than is expressed by these freedchildren and the colored people generally.   

I think the sentiment among the whites now is not unfavorable towards the education of these people. They only object to northern teachers this objection or prejudice however is not so strong as it has been heretofore.

I can see great improvement in the moral condition of these people since schools have been established, and feel satisfied that the various measures resorted to by the Bureau for the improvement of the colored race has been of great advantage to them and consequently to society generally - whenever its influences have been judiciously exercised.
