ficial, and the hatred to the north and the National Government is intensified though no longer as loudly expressed as heretofore.
The whites claim that they can influence three fourths of the Freedmen's vote and this is my own opinion also, for should the freedmen vote in opposition to their employer's advice, the whites will commence a series of petty persecutions upon them which the law cannot take hold of, but which will make the Freedman's condition unbearable and will lead to personal violence and probably riots.
Without a guard any election that may be ordered will as far as the colored vote is concerned be a mere farce.
