The Freedmen are all awake to their new rights and I believe will vote understandingly 

The school is now held in the building recently erected and the inside work is nearly finished. I am having good desks & seats made and other improvements which will make the building as good as any that I have seen in the state for that purpose. 

The same eagerness to learn exists among the children and a new zeal has inspired the grown people   They having been invested with rights that requires an education. 

The long continued severe weather has caused considerable suffering & sickness which has been alleviated by their own color to a great extent.  It is the improvident that suffer and they are a class that cannot be taught except by bitter experience. Every thing passes off Quietly in the county of Prince
