and the result is that they frequently loose by, not doing so, being unable to prove the facts of the verbal contract, they have made, the consequence is that many are out of employment, part of their time, nearly all of them have homes or places, of employment, but those who have large families find it very difficult to provide clothing for them, a number of persons having as many as ten or more children who are not able to render much assistance, in the way of supporting the family.

Those who are homeless, and not able to provide for themselves, are cared for by the Civil Authorities.  There are also a number of females that have children and have no husbands to help to support them, who find it very difficult to obtain situations for themselves on account of the incumberance of the children, their husbands in [[strikethrough]] many [[/strikethrough]] some instances been induced to leave them and seek new alliances with less responsibilities.

The School at this place is still in a most flourishing and prospering condition under the immediate charge of two colored ladies, Miss Smith and Mrs. Spencer, who deserved the highest praise and credit. -
