Office Asst. Supt. Bureau R.F and A.L.
Sub Dist. of Madison and Green Counties Va.
Madison C.H. Va. March 31, 1867

Bvt. Major Jr. R. Morse
Supt. 4th. Dist. Va.
Gordsonville Va.

Sir
I have the honor to report the condition of Bureau affairs in this Sub Dist during the month of March 1867 in compliance with Circular No 6 dated Hd. Qrs. Asst. Commissioner State of Va. Richmond Va. January 29th 1866
Since the passage of the military reconstruction bill by Congress the Whites seem to realize that the Freedmen have a social status in the community, although before the announcement that the bill had become a law many denounced it and avowed a determination never to go to the polls if negroes were allowed to vote. Yet at the present time all who will be entitled to vote are determined to avail themselves of the priviledge notwithstanding the equal rights of the Freedmen, and I can not perceive any disposition to obstruct the operations of the law
There is now very little opposition
