General

I have the honor to state that in making my report in compliance with Circular No 6, I omitted to mention the condition of Freedmens schools in my Sub Dist. I desire to do now what should have been done in the body of my report above referred to.

The school recently established at Sperryville Rappahannock Co Va is I learn progressing uninterruptedly & has about 30 pupils. I secured for this place the services of a colored Teacher named Peter Lawson who was recommended to be by Frederick H. Bruce Esqr (loyal) Asst. Ass'r. U.S. Int Rev. I was fortunate in obtaining his services, he is a very capable teacher. I have partially arranged for the establishment of another school at "Crooked Run" in this county $150.00 having been already raised for the purpose of putting up a school house. I shall be able to locate a school also at Washington Rappahannock County seat by next fall, plans having already set on foot for such a purpose at that point. Colored
