Scott County Miss Sir Application having been made at this Office by Winston & Daniel Yarborough (freedmen) for assistance concerning the settlement of their accounts with you under the terms of their agreement in cultivating crop on your place for the year 1866 and 1867, I have to request you to call at this Office at an early date and by appointment meet the said freedmen here for the purpose of effecting a settlement with them before the Sub Dist Comr. It is hoped Mr Smith will comply with this request and thereby avoid further action which would be necessary to be taken by this Office under Orders by which the same is governed. Sir It Having been represented at this Office. that you have in your possession some part of the Crop. (Cotton) raised this year on the place operated by Thos C. Howard (absconded) who has failed to satisfy the demands of his laborers. which brings the case within the provisions of Genl Orders No 31 S.S. B.R.F.& A.L. Office Asst Comr State of Miss, You are hereby commanded to hold such share of said cotton as has been subject to the orders and control of the said Howard. Hereafter subject only to the orders of this or a superior Military Officer. Any violations of these instructions will subject the parties so offending to trial by Military Court.
