In consequence of but few freedpeople being domiciled and permanent Citizens it would be impossible to determine with accuracy the number of Children between the ages of 5 and 20 who could be depended upon as pupils. It is believed however that a School could easily be established and maintained at each of the places where the greatest number of freedpeople are registered. Sub Asst Comr Sub Dist Vicksburgh Miss Captain I beg leave to notify you that application has been made at this Office by Mary Glover (Freedwoman) for assistance in obtaining pay for nine months labor which she claims due her from one William Noel, the following is a brief summary of her Statement. States that she worked for one William Noel at Lake Station Scott County Miss during a part of the years 1865 and 1866 in all 9 months at 5$ per month. Noel has repeatedly refused to pay the account and has since left Lake Station: He is supposed to be at work for the Southern R.R. Company, at Machine work in VBurg, Also States that Noels daughter Georgie Ann, retains 5$ which was entrusted to her to purchase clothing, more than the clothing cost.
