A Freedmen's village is situated on this farm which last year contained a population of about 1250 persons, by recent census, less than 500 remain. At the time the aforementioned order was received for the removal of unauthorised tenantry Two hundred and forty two ($242.00/100) dollars was due for last year's rent. The owner or agent (Dr R.H. Powers) has displayed a very kind disposition towards his tenantry and allowed them ten days to pay. giving to those who did so the privilege of remaining the present year at very fair rates, all who did not pay within the allowed time have been removed and the entire amount of indebtedness to Dr Powers ($242.00/100) has been paid by those who remain, and the occupancy of Slabtown is settled to the entire satisfaction of all interested for the present year.
