rebel Genl. Longstreet in his late published letter "that we should have followed the state of Tennessee for fear of getting worse, and now we had better be content with the Military Bill as we may get still worse;" but the men are very scarce in my sub-Dist. who will even talk in that manner. The whites in general in this Sub-Dist. have treasured up a bitter feeling of hatred towards the Government and the present Congress.
