Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands
Hd. Quarters Asst. Sub. Asst. Com'r,
"Counties of Montgomery Pulaski & Giles"
Christiansburg Mont'y Co. Va
April 25th 1867.

Captain Garrick Mallery
A A A G.

Captain- I have the honor to make the following report relative to the affairs of the Bureau, in the Counties of Montgomery, Pulaski and Giles, for the month of April 1867.

Very generally the Freedmen have been busily employed in prepairing the soil, and in getting ready for the cropping season, which in some parts of these Counties is rapidly advancing. Many of them are very much encouraged at the prospect before them, hoping to realize largely the present year, from the arrangements they have made with their Employers. It is to be hoped that they will not be disappointed. We have endeavoured as far as possible to obtain written contracts between the parties - and have notified the whites that the these conditions of the law must be complied with.

In regard to our School Enterprise, I fear for the want of necessary assistance -
