I have the honor in compliance with Circular No 6 dated Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr. State of Va. Richmond Va. January 29th, 1866, to make the following report of the condition of Bureau affairs in this Sub Dist.

The Freedmen in the Sub Dist. are all employed in putting in crops and are working generally to the entire satisfaction of their employers a large number are cultivating land on shares with a prospect of doing well if an average crop is produced. a portion of them rented houses at the beginning of the year with the intention of working by the day or week, and this class have been fully employed, notwithstanding the opposition of the whites to the plan, who predicted that the Freedmen would be unable to obtain employment in that manner, but owing to the scarcity
