There are six schools for the Freedpeople in successful operation three of which are supported, by Freedmen, and three by northern associations. One at Wytheville Va. and at [? burg] Va, and one at Salem Va. 

Schools are needed and requests have been made for schools, in the following counties with assurance that the people will be at the greater part of the expense, for the schools, are much needed, if teachers could be procured, There is some disposition among the whites to aid in establishing schools for Freedmen, partly induced by the fact that a large number have minors bound to them, under the statute, which requires them to be taught reading writing &c.
