There are no idlers, as plenty of employment as good wages can be had, and all seem desirous to avail themselves of it: wages range from ten dollars to fifteen dollars per month, with permission to cultivate small [[?]] of land for themselves. 

I have visited a number of the schools for freedmen in this county and find them well attended by both adults and children.  The teachers are very efficient and faithful in the discharge of their duties, and the scholars progress with [[?]] showing incraniably an eager desire to learn.  The discipline is admirable in the schools, and the children are docile and intelligent. 

One scholar, a little girl only six years old and every black, needs so fluintty that the family
