I have the honor to report in accordance with Cir. No. 6. Series/66. that the general feeling existing between the whites and freedmen of this county is harmonious. Some excitement was created on the 26th inst. by the arrival, at Christianville of a small detachment of the 21st Inft.
commanded by Lt. J.C. Currier, sent there in consequence of a document forwarded; by the citizens of that place; to Gen. Schofield, stating than an armed organization of freemen were drilling and acting improperly, in that locality. I was sent for and arrived at Christianville on the 28th, found the Lieut acting with great judgment & fairness; the matter had been exaggerated by the citizens.
