Bureau. R. F. & A. L.
Office A.S.A. Comr. Fairfax Co. Va.
Falls Church, May 31st, 1867.

Capt. S. P. Lee,
Sub. Asst. Commr.
10th Dist. Va.

Captain,
I have the honor to submit the following report of Bureau operations in this County, during the month of May, 1867.

There is plenty of employment here for Freedmen, and all are desirous of availing themselves of the opportunity of supporting their families. Many of them manifest an eager desire to take care of their old and decrepit relatives, which deserves commendations as it relieves the Bureau of great offense and trouble, and tends to make the Freedmen more independent.

After careful enquiry and diligent search, I have failed, during the month, to find any who were suffering for want of food, or needed any assistance to prevent distress.

The general condition of the Freedmen is improving with an astonishing and gratifying capacity. Their progress is somewhat impeded by the blind prejudice existing in the minds of the ignorant
