There have been some complaints made to me of threats & misrepresentation - made to the freedmen, to prevent their Registering, but upon investigation they have amounted to nothing.

While Registering at the C.H. Appomattox Co. I found a disposition on the part of the whites, to crowd the blacks out of their turn.  I went to the door & stated that they must take their turn regardless of color, the result was the whites gave way & the blacks took their places.  There was not a murmer & the best spirit prevailed.

This is the best illustration I can give of the feeling existing between the races.
