Freedmen's Schools.
There are two now in operation in these Counties, and are family attended, the want of more schools is felt, The Freedmen havenot the pecuniary means to build them, and it is earnestly hoped that the Bureau may assist them if practicable.

Issue of Rations & Clothing.
I have succeeded in inducing the County Court of Nottoway Co, to assess the Freedmen their proportion of the poor tax, this when doneand collected will obviate the necessity of my issuing clothing or rations, after the 1st September
As it will then become the duty of the Overseers of the Poor to attend to the Destitute Freedmen, as is now done by the Civil Authorities of Lunenburg County,

I am Capt,
Most Respectfully,
Your Obdt Servant,
D. J. Connolly,
Bvt Capt U.S. Vols,
Asst Sub Asst Commissioner.
