that far in perfecting arrangements to Establish permanent and uniform Societies which will be ruled and governed by such regulations as are incidental to such institutions. I find that an organization of this kind in which they can make an imposing display, by turning out in processions in full regalia of the order, is Much More preferable to any other organization that could be instituted. In this work I shall have the cooperation of almost all the leading Colored Men in this city. Intemperance amongst the Freedmen, though not on the increase, still marks its Evil effects upon them. I find upon investigation Many of the Tobacco Factory Employees, who are weekly in receipt of wages from Eight to Twelve dollars are in the habit of running up Credit accounts in Bar Rooms to the amount of, from one to three dollars, vigorous appeals will be made by the Societies, to induce the Col Men, to give up this practice, and take the whole of their hard Earned wages to the homes of their families.
