I visited some of the Colored Clergymen of this City, to induce them to organize in their congregations "Temperance Societies" and to resolve upon some course of action in regard to it, so far I have met with but little encouragement. I secured Speakers to advocate the principles of Temperance, but it is difficult to get an Audience. The people at present are devoting all their spare time and attention to Politics and as it is a new question to them, they are continually agitating it to the exclusion of all other subjects. I have addressed notes to all the Colored Clergymen requesting them to give their influence and attention to this matter and to impress upon their Congregations the importance of the measure, and I have no doubt we will be successful when we get a fair number of Persons interested
