existing among the Freedmen. I have witnessed several large gatherings of them during my stay here and have noted but three cases of drunkenness during the whole time

They take but little interest in the cause of temperance and are averse to signing the pledge and some refuse to do so. An attempt has been made to organize a temperance society, a meeting having been called for that purpose, but there was no attendance. Since that time a number have promised to unite in a temperance organization and I hope soon to be able to report a flourishing organization in both the counties under my jurisdiction.
