the Freedmen, I believe, it to be as indispensable as ever before, from the fact of its existence. I believe, many of the less scrupulous class of persons are restrained from a course which would be highly detrimental to the colored people. 

In compliance with Maj Genl O.O. Howards Circular letter of May 15th 1867. I have organized two temperance societies, known as the Lincoln Total Abstinence Society. The society, in this place, has forty three (43) member. The other, which is organized in Middleburg, has forty six (46) members. I predict, for them the most beneficial results to the Freedmen.
