"The Vanguard of Freedom" organized in one of the Schools with about one hundred and fifty names attached to the pledge.
I also report the pleasing fact that during the Registration of Voters in three of the Districts of the County, and administering the Oath to 1386 colored People there was perhaps not over four (If that number) exhibited any signs of intoxication and those but slightly.
On Friday night July 26th after the exercises of the Political meeting held in the 3 Ward I introduced the subject of Temperance and a number of colored People in said ward have expressed a desire to organize a Temperance Association.
On Monday night 29 inst. there was another Temperance Meeting in the Baptist Church to be followed by a series of such meetings. so that there may be an interest excited on the importance of forming Temperance Organizations for the improvement of their own People. The Clergy are becoming alive to the necessity of such organization that the true character of their People may be fully developed. I confidently beleive that during the month
