in this County and Patrick on education and have succeeded in establishing two or three small schools, but hope to have one in every magisterial District before the end of the year; their anxiety to learn, is only excelled by their ability to do so.

This section of Virginia is so remote from the rail road, that it has not felt the influences of Northern instruction and association near as much as other portions of the State, and if the Bureau would only send one Teacher even, it would do incalculable good. 

But very few of them have purchased land, and a less number have saved money for that purpose, which may be accounted for, on the ground that they still think that Land will be given them by the Government. 

I have no doubt however, but their minds will soon become disabused of this believe, and that in a reasonable length of time, they will nearly all acquire homes of their own, the importance of which, I continually impress upon their minds.
