And I do not know of a single instance where they were deterred from registering as Voters, except in the case of Mr W.R. Preston, referred to in several previous reports (Special and general) and which has now been properly brought before me as Military Commissioner for prompt action, by the General Com'dg District (Sub) of Lynchburg. The Several schools in this Division close the present term with the last of this month, and it is expected will reopen on the 1st of October. School No. 1 at Christiansburg will then re-assemble in our new School House- and it is expected will have in addition to the present Teacher, an assistant, to help her in her duties. It is expected, the school will then number from one hundred to one hundred & fifty- Great credit is due the Teacher, for the marked advancement of her pupils in their studies, and for the good deportment of her Scholars, both in School and out. The prejudice and opposition which was at first manifested toward the school, has entirely disappeared, owing to a wise and judicious course pursued by the Lady having the interest in charge. The entire number of Scholars entered upon the Rolls, since the opening of School, Feb 7th 1867, is 108- Left School on account of removal, and other unavoidable causes twelve- dismissed for bad conduct out of School 4, number of pupils at the close of the term 92. It is also expected that on the first day of October, the School at Newbern, Pulaski Co. will be reorganized in their newly repaired School House, which is now used for holding Sabbath School and Church Services. The Sunday School at this place numbers the same as last reported, and is properly managed by those having it in charge.                                          over.
