There are a number of Sabbath schools, which are encouraged by the presence  and cooperation of the whites.

In the lower part of the County there is but little destitution, which has been relieved by the colored people themselves. This class is scattered throughout the middle and upper portions of the County: and so utterly helpless and dependent are some of them, and so averse to going to the Poor House, that it seems probable the stoppage of supplies will cause much suffering among them.  The County authorities have however been notified of the change, and are prepared to provide in the usual manner for all who may require their aid.

During the month I have improved several opportunities to speak to the colored people upon the subject of Temperance: and have nearly completed the necessary preparations for the organization of Temperance Societies throughout the county.  It is my purpose to make an earnest effort in this direction, looking for those results of permanent good which the importance of the movement ought to induce.
