the prospect is that there will be a larger demand. The class of persons to whom clothing has been issued are so situated that there is no prospect of their being able to clothe themselves unassisted. In all the Counties the authorities make provisions for the support of the poor of each county without regard to color. This provision is ample for the support of all. 

Schools. The Schools are now having vacation except one at Abingdon and one at Saltville. These schools are supported by the Freedmen. From the best information I have there are from 15 to 20 Sabbath schools within this Dist. with an attendance of from 100 to 1000 scholars. There is a great and growing interest among the Freedpeople on the subject of Education. Their earnest anxiety and efforts to learn are remarkable, and their progress in education where they have had an opportunity is unparalleled and clearly refutes the charge that they are incapable of improving in Education.
