Their interest and anxiety for Education are only equaled by the apathy and indiference of the Whites in regard to the same. These schools must be continued by agencies and contributions from the North and if the Whites manifest the same disposition and objection to Northern agencies the most inteligence with the masses will soon be found among the colored people. 

School houses are being repaired at Bristol, Abingdon, Wytheville, Newburn, and Christiansburg all of which are divided by appropriations from the Bureau. 

At least twenty teachers ought to be sent into this Dist. the coming fall. 

Temperance. The colored people are generally temperate though not "tee totalers" Efforts have been made to organize societies but politics have so absorbed every thing else for the past two months that but little progress has been made. A society has been
