I have the honor to report in behalf of the cause of temperance in Alexandria Va.

I find the colored people slow to take the interest in this great moral reform that I hoped they would do during the past month.

The absence from the City at intervals of some of the Ministers is one reason why temperance meetings were not held, it being desirable to have the Ministers present at the organization of these associations the holding of public meetings is regarded as essential to a fair presentation of facts. So as to awaken in the minds of these people a spirit of inquiry on this subject. Another perhaps the greatest hindrance to usefulness in this subject is may be found in the political excitement under which these people now labor, in part growing out of the proceedings of the late convention held in Richmond
