The exciting discussions arising from the action of that political body is the all absorbing question of the day-and I find it a difficult matter to have the colored people turn their attention to the subject of temperance, there too the aspirants for political honor; present to some of the people the old custom of the bottle by way of showing attachment to and interest for the comforts & social equality of the colored voters.

Notwithstanding the cause of Temperance is slowly but I think surely gaining in the community and we believe as the evenings are getting long, we will be able to do much for our fellow citizens of this class. the promise of the Preachers is a hearty cooperation in advancing this great interest speedily with their people. We hope when another month rolls around you will hear of great good having been accomplished instrumentally by the cause of temperance when they will present the pure banner unstained by human blood, unmet by widows and orphan tears.

Respectfully submitted
