{A.A.A.Genl.}

General,

In compliance with Circular Va, 6. Dated Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr. Va. Richmond Va. Jany. 29th 1867. I have the honor to report that the Freedmen have done remarkably well during the present month, although the feeling against them by the Whites is very bitter. This feeling growing out of Political animosity and hatred towards the Union Party which is fast gaining ground, The Freedmen comprising the Majority of said party, and are threatened with dismissal, and in many instances with violence should they presist in sustaining the Republican Party, at the coming Election, so instances of Freedmen having left their Employers, or of the Employers having discharged any, as yet none have come to my knowledge. There has been no Schools open for the Freed people during this month,

I am Genl. Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
E.B. Gales,
Capt. V.R.C and A.S.A.C.
