their actions. I have discouraged their meeting here so often, as it involved much loss of time to them, and was a serious inconvenience to their employers.  Some of the whites were alarmed and feared that a military organization existed among the Freedmen, but I find upon investigation that their fears are groundless as no such organization exists. 
     But little interest is of yet exhibited in the cause of temperance, by the Freedmen several meetings have been held for the purpose organizing a society if possible, but few were induced to pledge themselves to total abstinence barely enough to effect an organization. 
     Those who have joined promise to use all their influence to increase their number, and hope in a short time more interest will be manifested.
